Twenty-Four
year old Boston-based newcomer Bleu exploded onto the Boston scene...
...in December 1999 with his charming debut holiday album, A Bing Bang Holidang; a charity record to benefit the Boston Institute for Arts Therapy. With special guest appearances from friends Dicky Barrett (The Mighty Mighty Bosstones), Kay Hanley (Letters to Cleo), Ryan Miller and Adam Gardner (Guster), Bill Janovitz (Buffalo Tom), Jason Kendall (The Amazing Crowns), A Bing Bang Holidang spent December in the top 60 at Newbury Comics, and was added in rotation on many local commercial radio stations. A Bing Bang Holidang ended 1999 as one of the largest selling independently released albums of the year in the North East. In January, Bleu immediately began collaborating with engineer and producer Ducky Carlisle (Susan Tedeschi) to start work on his first all original solo album entitled Headroom. (Lunch Records) "I am consistently writing. We had over 80 songs to choose from and we somehow narrowed it down to 17," states Bleu. From the daily grind of "Thats Life," to the innocent imagery of "Searching for the Satellites," Bleu tells stories: inventing his own context with a flare for modern production. With guest appearances by Ramona Silver and Aaron Lippert (Expanding Man), Headroom examines Bleus unique songwriting and production skills. After an October 2000 release, the critically acclaimed Headroom has landed Bleu in many local and national publications as well as garnering 2 Boston Music Award Nominations, 2 Phoenix/WFNX Music Poll Nominations, New England commercial radio airplay, and the attention of many major labels . |
